Background

Townsville Airport is the centre of aviation in the North Queensland Region. Townsville Airport operates the airport under a Joint User Agreement with the Department of Defence, with Townsville Airport leasing an area of 81 hectares of the airport for civil aviation purposes. As a joint user facility, the responsibility for planning and development of the Airport is shared by both the Department of Defence and Townsville Airport.

Townsville Airport’s catchment area extends from Tully to the North, Charters Towers to the South West, and Bowen to the South. As the regional hub for North Queensland, Townsville is also a key transit and destination port servicing inland cities such as Mount Isa and the mining and residential communities of the Gulf of Carpentaria.

Townsville’s population is young and vibrant. With a large proportion of young singles and families with higher than the national average income, the region is fuelled with energy.

The catchment areas draws from a population of around 250,000 with approximately 160,000 people living in the immediate Townsville CBD area.

Townsville Airport’s passenger mix is evenly spread between business and leisure, providing year round market stability. The itinerant population generates a strong visiting friends and relatives (VFR) market. Townsville’s inbound tourism market is growing as the destination develops.

The Terminal Building is open from 5:00am until after the last flight of the day.

Banking

There are two automatic teller machines installed in the terminal, situated adjacent to the Seating area for the newly renovated café in the terminal building, and in the secure area accross from Beach Culture against the escalators. Access to most major banking accounts is provided.

Toilets are situated in the terminal building near the check in areas, baggage collection and the ground floor arrivals/departures area.

Special Needs

Disabled toilets are situated in the terminal building near the check in counters, baggage collection and the ground floor arrivals/departures area.

Baby Care Facilities

Baby Care Facilities are situated near the check in counters, baggage collection and the ground floor arrivals/departures area in the terminal building. Feeding cubicles with change facilities are provided as well as toilet facilities, nappy disposal unit and a wash basin. We also offer a baby bottle warmer in the parent rooms.

Trolleys

Trolleys are provided for your convenience. They are available for collection at the stables provided. Charge is a gold coin that is refunded once returned to stable.

Luggage

Luggage is not to be left unattended at Townsville Airport due to strict security regulations. Please note that there are no locker hiring facilities at the airport.

Lounges

The arrivals and departures lounge is located in the central part of the terminal. To enter the lounge you need to pass through security screening and ensure that you follow the directions of the security personnel at the airport. The travelling public, “meeters and greeters’, and visitors may access the central lounge area.

Qantas Club members can access the Qantas Club Lounge facilities after passing through security screening. The Qantas Club Lounge is situated to the left of the security screening area.

Internet Booths

“Internet Only” internet booths are installed in the secure area on the right hand side of the escalators.
