Steak and Guiness Pie with Wicked Mash
I am not a Guiness drinker but this pie really hits the spot. Serve the pie around the average temp of a pommy pub’s schooner…….90 C
Ingredients
- 1kg Diced Steak
- 1 tbsp of Flour
- 1 Tbsp Brown Sugar
- 5 Onions
- 10oz can of Guiness
- 8 slices of Irish Bacon or Turkey Bacon
- 20ml olive oil
- 1 Pie Crust
- Filo Pastry
- 1 Egg, lightly beaten
Directions
- Make sure the steak is diced into small enough pieces
- Dredge the steak through the flour, covering it completely
- In a pan heat the olive oil and add the steak and bacon.
- Heat till starting to brown
- Peel and chop the onion into small pieces and add that to the pan
- Cook for 5 mins
- Place the pan contents into a casserole dish, add the sugar and pour in the Guiness
- Cover tightly and simmer in a very moderate oven at around 120c for about 2 hours
- Periodically add Guiness/Water if the gravy becomes to thick
- Pour into the pie base
- Cover with Filo, poke three holes in the top and give egg wash
- Bake until finished (approx 15 mins)
