Steak_and_Guiness_Pie

I am not a Guiness drinker but this pie really hits the spot. Serve the pie around the average temp of a pommy pub’s schooner…….90 C

  • 1kg Diced Steak
  • 1 tbsp of Flour
  • 1 Tbsp Brown Sugar
  • 5 Onions
  • 10oz can of Guiness
  • 8 slices of Irish Bacon or Turkey Bacon
  • 20ml olive oil
  • 1 Pie Crust
  • Filo Pastry
  • 1 Egg, lightly beaten

Directions

  1. Make sure the steak is diced into small enough pieces
  2. Dredge the steak through the flour, covering it completely
  3. In a pan heat the olive oil and add the steak and bacon.
  4. Heat till starting to brown
  5. Peel and chop the onion into small pieces and add that to the pan
  6. Cook for 5 mins
  7. Place the pan contents into a casserole dish, add the sugar and pour in the Guiness
  8. Cover tightly and simmer in a very moderate oven at around 120c for about 2 hours
  9. Periodically add Guiness/Water if the gravy becomes to thick
  10. Pour into the pie base
  11. Cover with Filo, poke three holes in the top and give egg wash
  12. Bake until finished (approx 15 mins)
