Townsville Copper Refinery expansion

Expansion of MIM’s Townsville copper refinery is part of the company’s growth and cost reduction strategy for its copper business.

MIM’s Townsville copper refinery was expanded and modernised to match increased anode output from the copper smelter.

Refinery capacity has been increased to 270 000 tonnes a year.

Much of the capacity increase was achieved through improvements in technology and operating practices so that only a 10% increase in the size of the tankhouse was required.

The expansion has delivered both productivity and unit cost improvements.
